Diamondback Mountain Bikes
Diamondback is a US bike manufacturer that's owned by Raleigh. Most well know for their mountain and BMX bikes, Diamondback also produces hybrids and cruisers. Some people have an impression of Diamondback as a lower end bike maker due to the fact that many lower end models are carried by big chain sporting goods stores like Dicks Sporting Goods. One the upper end of the spectrum you'll find bikes with quality and spec that are on par with most others in the mountain bike industry.
A lot of people don't know that Diamondback was a real innovator back in 1991 when they introduced the first 29" trail bike. The "Overdrive" and "Overdrive Comp" didn't find a market back then and were quickly ditched for more traditional mountain bikes. The 29er platform has now gone main-stream with almost every builder offering a big-wheeled rig.
Current full suspension Diamondback mountain bike models include: MTN Full Suspension, MISSION 1, MISSION 2, MISSION 3 , RECOIL, RECOIL COMP, SCAPEGOAT, SORTIE 1, SORTIE 2, SORTIE 3
Current hardtail Diamondback mountain bike models include: LUX, LUX SPORT, OUTLOOK, OVERDRIVE, OVERDRIVE PRO, PEAK, RESPONSE, RESPONSE COMP, RESPONSE SPORT, SORRENTO

This video features an interview with Diamondback's product manager and introduces their new line of "Overdrive" 29er bikes. Then entry level Overdrive 29er looks pretty sweet for $600. I've seen other 29ers with no suspension fork at that price point, but few with a decent fork. This would be great as a second or third bike.
