Moots Mountain Bikes
Moots is a small American custom bike maker located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Moots bicycles was founded in 1981 by hall of fame mountain biker Kent Eriksen. Like several other American custom/semi-custom bike builders, Moots focuses their efforts on smooth-riding titanium frames. Ti is a dream material for many. It has the strength and smooth ride of steel, but with a weight similar to aluminum. You also don't have to worry about corrosion like you do with steel frames. The only drawback is the price. You'll pay a premium for a Moots Titanium mountain bike, but what you get in return is a piece of hand-built rolling art.
If you're in the market for a 29er and a work of art, you might want to consider liquidating your 401k and invest in a Moots Mooto-X 29er. The Mooto-X is available as a hardtail or a YBB soft tail. Like all Moots frames, the Mooto-X is 100% handbuilt seamless titanium tubing. The frame is set up to accomodate up to 2.3" tires and your favorite 80mm travel 29er fork. Optional equipment includes rack eyelets and 3rd water bottle mounts.
The Moots Cinco is a sweet do-it-all full suspension bike. The font triangle of this beauty is all Ti and the rear is 6000 series aluminum for stiffness. All cincos come with the Fox RP23 and are set up to accomodate a 5" travel fork in the front to match the 5" of travel in the back. This bike is truly the Rolls Royce of mountain bikes and if you're budget allows, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful frame and a buttery smooth, but efficent ride.
