Schwinn Mountain Bikes
Schwinn is a large US bicycle company that has gone through many ups and downs throughout it's history. Schwinn makes fitness equipment and motorscooter as well bicycles. When it comes to mountain bikes, Schwinn offers more bikes in the recreational mountain category. Schwinn has a full line of rec level hardtails, but currently only offers one full suspension model, the 2008 Rocket Disc.
The Rocket Disc rides on a Schwinn Iso-Drive Aluminum Frame with 3.5" of travel in the rear. Up front, the Rocket is spec'd with a 80mm travel Suntour XCT suspension fork. Schwinn rounds out the package with a solid components that include a 24 speed Deore drivetrain, Hayes HMX-4 Mechanical Disc Brakes and Alex double walled rims. This bike probably isn't going to hold up to the demands of a hardcore all-mountain or trail rider, but for $600 the Rocket Disc packs plenty of value and will server the novice rider well.
Featured Schwinn Mountain Bike - Mesa Disc
Schwinn's top end hardtail is the reliable Mesa Disc. The Mesa Dis uses Schwinn's N'Litened Silver Label Custom Drawn Aluminum for the frame. The frame is light, reasonably stiff and represents a solid value compated to other hardtails in this price range. The Suntour 80mm suspension fork does a good job of soaking up bumps in the trail and the Hayes HMX-4 Mechanical disc brakes provide good stopping power in most conditions. Like it's full suspension brother, the Rocket, the Mesa Disc is a great hardtail for new and intermediate riders on a budget.
